Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade Is Back On

The Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade is officially back on, but it is moving to a new spot this year.

The 28th annual parade will be held at the East River Park Amphitheater in the Lower East Side's Corlears Hook Park, according to its organizers. This year's parade will be broadcast on ESPN and hosted by Katie Nolan.

In a statement, District 2 City Councilwoman Carlina Rivera said that Good Old Lower East Side, a local civic group, will fund the insurance for this year’s parade, and ESPN will make a $10,000 donation to the City Parks Foundation for the Tompkins Square Dog Run.

"I am so happy that after months of work with community advocates and dog lovers, the Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade will be returning to the community for its 28th iteration,” Rivera said.

It was announced in August that the parade had to be canceled due to the large insurance and liability policy required by the city's parks department. The city requires a certificate of insurance valued at $1 million for events at city parks with more than 500 people.
