Restaurant Spotlight: Craft Bar
Restaurant Spotlight: Craft Bar

New York is full of incredible restaurants, many of which are within a short distance from our Stuyvesant Town community. If you're looking for nearby suggestions, then we recommend that you check out the Craft Bar, which is located less than a mile away off of Broadway and 20th Street.

About the Craft Bar

The Craft Bar was established with the goal of creating simple foods using the freshest possible ingredients while still retaining a casual dining atmosphere. Tom Colicchio, founder of the Craft Bar as well as several other restaurants in the city, opened the first Craft restaurant with the intention of replicating the experience of dining in someone else's home as a guest, which is why dinners are served family style - all dishes are brought to the center of the table for the diners to help themselves. The Craft Bar is an extension of this idea.

The dining room has a relaxed, rustic design that boasts the character shared by many historic pre-war buildings, making the Craft Bar the perfect place for brunch, casual lunch a full dinner or even a quick drink. The restaurant also offers a private dining experience. Their private dining room can either seat 45 guests or accommodate up to 80 for a reception, while the main dining room can seat upwards of 110 guests or provide room for 200 for a reception.

The Craft Bar Menu

The menu is inspired by the nearby Greenmarket and changes on a daily basis to take advantage of the freshest available ingredients, all of which have been caught, farmed, produced or raised locally. To compliment these simple yet unique menu options, a carefully-curated drink list is available that includes seasonal cocktails, craft beers and a wine selection provided by small wine producers.

Although the menu changes everyday, you can still get a good idea of what to expect. Anyone looking to just drop in for a drink can also order off of a list of snacks that may include items such as Marinated Eggplant or White BBQ Chicken Wing Confit. There is also a daily selection of Cheese & Charcuterie options, which could include items as diverse as Beef Tongue or as simple as a cheese selection. Of course it's the main courses where Craft Bar shines. Expect the menu to have unique and delicious courses such as Cheese Pumpkin & Taleggio Agnolotti, Squid Ink Linguine, Veal Ricotta Meatballs and Buttermilk Fried Young Chicken.

The Craft Bar Team

Owner Tom Colicchio was distinguished with the Award for Outstanding Chef in 2010 by the James Beard Foundation. His Craft Bar team is led by Luke Wallace (the Chef De Cuisine), Cyndra Cook (the General Manager) and Abby Swain (the pastry chef).
