The Northern hemisphere's vernal Equinox happens every year on March 19 or 20 and marks the start of spring. In the southern hemisphere, the equinox signals the arrival of fall. It occurs at the same time around the world, regardless of the time zone. In 2017, spring will start on March 20. More precisely, it will start at 6:28 on March 20.

The Butterfly Conservatory at the American Museum of Natural History
The butterfly conservatory is an annual exhibition and is sure to entertain and enthrall those who want to learn more about butterflies and moths. The exhibition consists of a vivarium along with numerous photographs of butterflies and butterfly specimens. Visitors can learn about the butterfly's anatomy, defense mechanisms and their impact on the environment. The conservatory is open until May 28. Tickets to the museum cost $22 for adults and $12.50 for children. The American Natural History is located at Central Park West and 79th St.
Macy's Flower Show
The famous chain will welcome spring at its Herald Square store for two weeks. The department store will host brilliantly colored flower arrangements, specialty gardens and themed events. Macy's will also provide live music along with activities for children and seminars. Both flower enthusiasts and regular shoppers alike can visit to take in the striking floral scenes. The Flower Show starts on March 26 with fashion illustrator Dallas Shaw's rundown of the season’s trends and closes on April 8 with a performance by Pia Mia.
Dessert Goals is New York City's first dessert fest. The festival's originators consider it a celebration of the city's decadent foods. Vendors at the event were hand picked after having their goods rigorously taste-tested. Dessert Goals’ aim is to show off some of the best that New York City has to offer across the different dessert categories. Visitors will be able to enjoy Mochi Ice Cream, Brazilian chocolate truffles from Little Treats as well as dragon fruit bowls from Baba Cool among other sweet treats. There will also be unlimited Intelligentsia coffee and a free candy shop. General Admission tickets are $15. Dessert Goals will be held on Dobbin St in Williamsburg, a short walk away from McCarren Park.
The Bronx Zoo's Madagascar!
Watch some of the Bronx Zoo's 97 lemurs from the island of Madagascar as they move around a habitat designed to be similar to their natural environment. While the exhibit is open year round, the spring is the perfect time to see them. The Madagascar exhibit is included with general admission, which is $24.95 for adults and kids over 13 and $17.95 for children 3-12. The Bronx Zoo is located at 2300 Southern Blvd.
