One of New York City’s most beloved summer traditions is back. Free Shakespeare in the Park returns to Central Park for summer 2026, offering unforgettable nights of world‑class theater completely free of charge.
Presented by The Public Theater, the 2026 season continues its Shakespeare for the City programming at the newly revitalized Delacorte Theater, welcoming audiences from across all five boroughs to experience Shakespeare under the open sky.
2026 Productions at the Delacorte Theater
Romeo and Juliet
Dates: May 22 – June 28, 2026
Director: Saheem Ali
Shakespeare’s most iconic love story returns to the Delacorte Theater for the first time in nearly two decades. This new production brings fresh energy to the timeless tale of romance, rivalry, and fate.
The Winter’s Tale
Dates: July 25 – August 23, 2026
Director: Daniel Sullivan
A sweeping story of loss, forgiveness, and renewal, The Winter’s Tale blends drama and wonder, making it a perfect midsummer experience in Central Park.
How to Get Free Tickets
All performances are completely free, though tickets are required.
Tickets are distributed through several methods:

In‑person distribution at the Delacorte Theater on the day of each performance, beginning at noon

Borough‑based distribution locations throughout New York City
Each guest may receive up to two tickets. Seating is assigned randomly. A Public Theater Patron ID is required to receive tickets, and guests are encouraged to register in advance through The Public Theater’s website.
