The Ultimate StuyTown Summer Bucket List

There’s nothing like summer in the city, and we want to make sure that everyone at StuyTown is taking full advantage of the beautiful weather. So, we’ve compiled a bucket list catered to you, with something for anyone and everyone. Explore the East Village and beyond!

We know you’ve heard of the StuyTown Greenmarket, but did you know that Union Square has one too? Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, Union Square hosts its own farmers market featuring goods from New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, and more. What better way to spend a summer day than shopping for local produce and other fresh finds?

Relax in a Park

Warm weather in NYC means it’s time to find a place to lay out in the sun! Luckily for StuyTown residents, Tompkins Square Park is only an 8minute walk away. Whether you’re looking to picnic in the park or just catch some rays, it’s an ideal spot for a quick summer escape. Too hot to travel? Bring some snacks and beverages to our very own Oval and enjoy the greenery without leaving home.

Catch a Movie (or Class) on the Oval

Summer at StuyTown wouldn’t be complete without spending time on the Oval. From seasonal movie screenings to wellness classes like yoga, the Oval becomes a true community hub all summer long. Bring a blanket, invite a friend, and make a night of it.

In New York, outdoor space is a hot commodity -- and the most soughtafter real estate is found high in the sky. Luckily, even if you don’t happen to have a penthouse with its own veranda, there are countless rooftop bars perfect for sipping cocktails and taking in breathtaking views across the city.

Grab Ice Cream Near StuyTown

The best way to celebrate a warm day is with a sweet treat—and luckily, StuyTown is surrounded by great ice cream options. Head to Van Leeuwen Ice Cream in the East Village for classic and vegan scoops made with rich, highquality ingredients, or stop by Mikey Likes It Ice Cream on Avenue A for nostalgic flavors with a creative twist. For something extra close, Peter Coop’s Scoops is a StuyTown favorite, serving up playful, smallbatch flavors from Sugar Hill Creamery, just steps from home. Alphabet Scoop and neighborhood staples like Carvel and BaskinRobbins on East 14th Street make it easy to cool off without going far. No matter your flavor preference, there’s a scoop nearby with your name on it.

One summer activity no one looks forward to is trying to choose a restaurant that works for a big group. Time Out Market in Union Square is the perfect solution and is only a 13minute walk from StuyTown. Featuring a rotating lineup of NYC restaurants and plenty of outdoor seating, it’s an easy crowdpleaser for warm, sunny days.

Bike Through NYC

Enjoy the warm weather as you take a bike ride through the city. Looking for views? Bike over the Williamsburg Bridge on the designated bike path for memorable sights of the East River and Manhattan skyline. Prefer something shaded? The Hudson River Greenway offers a scenic, partially shaded route up Manhattan’s West Side. Cut east at 57th Street to end your ride in Central Park.

Shop Local (and Convenient)

From Trader Joe’s and Target to the newer, neighborhoodfriendly Whole Foods Daily Shop on East 14th Street, summer errands near StuyTown are refreshingly easy. Stock up for a picnic, grab something to go, or cool off with an iced coffee before heading back to the Oval.

Catch the World Cup Action Nearby

When the World Cup rolls around, StuyTown is perfectly positioned to tap into the citywide soccer buzz. Whether you’re following every match or just showing up for the biggest moments, watching alongside fellow fans makes the experience much better. From highenergy soccer pubs to neighborhood bars that open early for kickoff, NYC has no shortage of great viewing spots. For a full roundup of fanfavorite venues—many just a quick subway ride away—check out our guide to the Best Bars to Watch the World Cup in NYC. Jerseys encouraged, voices loud, and celebratory drinks highly recommended.

Summer is peak event season at StuyTown. From the Greenmarket and petfriendly gatherings to fitness classes and family activities, there’s always something happening close to home. Keep an eye on the community calendar so you don’t miss out on what’s going on this week -- or this weekend.
